You're my rock & roll star

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Today new names for the Rock Werchter festival were announced, and I'm insanely excited! The Kings are coming! And this year a holiday in France won't keep me from going! I can't believe I'm actually going to see them perform! I've been dreaming of that ever since I've first heard their music. I might die of excitement, but I suppose it will be worth it. This probably makes me sound like a silly fan, but my love for their music goes beyond anything else. If you've ever heard them I bet you will understand why. If you haven't, just believe me when I say that it's pure genius. And on the off chance you disagree, please stop kidding yourself. Ofcourse KOL won't be the only act sharing their magic. By 'inviting' Beirut, Kate Nash, Radiohead, REM, Editors and MIKA they have created what seems to be the perfect festival. So I'll definately be buying a ticket next week. More info about the festival & the line up can be found at http://www.rockwerchter.be/

This photographs embodies everything I love about the way Parisian women dress. And it reminds me of how much I miss being in la belle Paris myself. I'm seriously hoping I'll be able to live there for a couple of months within the next 3 or4 years. Maybe it's time to start planning. If only the future were now!

Lula love

Received my very own copy of Lula magazine today. And it couldn't have come at a better time! It's perfect for a little bit of daydreaming. And I like how it is (once again) filled with pretty editorials and nice articles. I think I have my evening planned.

I also got my ticket for the kooks concert. Only six weeks to go!Photobucket

Merci Beaucoup

First of all I would like to say thank you for the great responses I received on my latest post! I can't tell you how much I appreciate that! Seems like things are looking up again. My mother is doing a bit better and the initial shock has started to fade away. We're all trying to stay optimistic and so far it's working.
Since I don't feel like lingering on about the whole situation for too long, I thought I should just continue the blog where I left off. Obviously I won't be updating as much as I did before, but given it's a nice distraction from what's happening, there will be some new posts these next few days. Starting today.

.

I just came back from the hospital. My mother suffered a stroke and has been admitted to the hospital this afternoon. I'm pretty much in shock right now. I can't believe this is happening. I'm ridiculously worried and I'm anxious for the phone to ring. I'm not even sure why I'm posting this but I guess I just had to get it off my chest.

Let's Talk

Since I thought it would be a great idea to make this blog a bit more interactive, and because I'd like to know who reads my blog, I would really love it if you could leave a comment and tell me a bit about who you are and what you would like to see on this blog!
Already posted a poll about the matter but I could only add three options. So suggestions are more than welcome! Maybe there are some unexpected topics you would want to read about, categories you think that should be added or extented. Anything goes, just let me know and I'll consider it :)

Seems like blogging won't be anywhere near the top of my to do list in the next few days or so. Tomorrow morning I'll be having my first driving lesson. Pretty exciting if you ask me. Tomorrow night a miracle is about to happen, because it seems like the Babyshambles concert will finally be taking place, after being cancelled three times before. If all goes well I'll be there, dancing like crazy ofcourse. Wednesday will be my first day on the new job. Thursday my second driving lesson. And in between those events I need to find time to study. As you can imagine, all of this combined will be pretty time absorbing which means there won't be much time left for me to blog. I will try to post some photographs of the concert though. And with a little luck I'll be back on Friday. To make the wait more bareable I will put all my mojo in this post.

First of all, back to my ikea wishlist. As you might have read I was planning to go back there to buy the white couch. And I did. I also bought the white bookcase, the one at the left of my collage (weighing 32 kilos, landing on my toes, luckily not breaking them). Since there's no fun in storing your furniture for months, I decided that there would be no harm in already taking some of it in use. Or all of it. So I located my fathers toolbox and started DIY-ing. I discovered I'm a very gifted DIY-er. Miraculously, I excel in constructing IKEA furniture. Seems like I've finally discovered my talent.

On a completely different and slightly musical note, saturday I bought a ticket for the Kooks' concert in Amsterdam on the 14th of april. Saw them play once before, at Pinkpop last may, and they were awesome. The whole audience went crazy. This concert is part of the promotour for their new album "Konk", which will be released on that very 14th of april. If it's anything like their first one ít should be very entertaining.

Another great band, or should I say singer, is Beirut. I'm addicted to the song Nantes, a perfect mix between Yann Tiersen and indie rock. It reminds me of the many great summers I've spend in the south of France. Check out the video above.

Yesterday I discovered Alison Sudol better known as A Fine Frenzy. I love her music, it's very dreamy and her voice is absolutely beautiful. Check out her myspace for more of her wonderful music: http://www.myspace.com/afinefrenzy

Today's source of inspiration is the wonderful Kate Nash, whose music I've fallen madly in love with. Her songs are incredibly addictive and she's ridiculously cute. Last december I went to see her show at Melkweg in Amsterstam and it was one of the most terrific concerts I've ever been to. She was so full of energy and enthousiasm that night, it was simply fantastic!

Siri Tollerød in the new issue of Lula. I never particularly liked her but she looks really pretty in this editorial! Ordered the new Lula a few days ago, so with a little bit of luck it will be on my doormat by next week. Can't wait!

Made an Ikea wishlist with things I want for my, not yet acquired but certainly upcoming, new room. Went shopping there yesterday and bought some new things (pictured below). Coveted an awful lot more. I especially like the white cabinet in the upper right corner. I would love to have one of those to stall my books in, but unfortunately it's a bit too expensive for my taste. I also love the colourscheme of this collage. As you can see, white will probably be the main colour with some black and brown. And probably some floral patterns. The piece I like the most is the lamp in the upper left corner. It's pretty big, about 75cm's in diameter and it looks fantastic upclose. Too bad it's quite expensive, I'm really hesitant about buying it because I'm not sure whether it's worth 60 euro's or not. One thing I am sure about though is that I want a white couch. Against my own better judgement. Against my mother's better judgement, heck even against the universe's better judgement. Because we all know that a white couch is bound to get stained. Luckily I would take a stained white couch over a differently coloured couch any day, so it's a pretty good deal nonetheless if you ask me. I'm probably going back there today to buy it. Maybe I'll take the smaller white bookcase as well. Buying new furniture is a lot of fun, it certainly beats shopping for new clothes.

Foxy Copenhagen

"For the launch of the new Volkswagen Fox 21 international artists from the fields of graphic design, urban art and illustration turned Hotel Fox in central Copenhagen, into the world’s most exciting and creative lifestyle hotel.

Each room is an individual piece of art. From wacky comical styles to strict graphic design. From fantastic street art and Japanese Manga to simply spaced out fantasies. You will find flowers, fairytales, friendly monsters, dreaming creatures, secrets vaults and more.

One thing we promise: You haven't seen anything like it."

If a welcome text like that doesn't sound promising then I don't know what does. And because of that I booked a room there for my stay in Copenhagen. I'm already excited, and curious about which room it's going to be. Will find out soon enough though!

Some of my favourite rooms are pictured below:

What started out as a fun little game, better known as 'catch the towel thief', turned into quite the sight. The sight being me tripping over the carpet and landing on the floor after hitting the table with my right side and the couch with my left side. How hilarious and entertaining. Or at least Max thought it was. Luckily I was able to take this adorable picture right before the embarrassing incident took place.

Catcher in the Rye - JD Salinger

But there was this one boy, Richard Kinsella. He didnt stick to the point too much and they were always yelling "Digression!" at him. It was terrible, because in the first place, he was a very nervous guy - I mean he was a very nervous guy - and his lips were always shaking whenever it was his time to make a speech, and you could hardly hear him if you were sitting way in the back of the room. When his lips sort of quit shaking a little bit, though, I liked his speeches better than anybody else's. He practically flunked the course, though, too. He got a D plus because they kept yelling "Digression!" at him all the time. For instance, he made this speech about this farm his father bought in Vermont. They kept yelling "Digression!" at him the whole time he was making it, and this teacher, Mr. Vinson, gave him an F on it because he hadn't told what kind of animals and vegetables and stuff grew on the farm and all. What he did was, Richard Kinsella, he'd start telling you all about that stuff - then all of a sudden he'd start telling you about this letter his mother got from his uncle, and how his uncle got polio and all when he was forty-two years old, and how he wouldn't let anybody come to see him in the hospital because he didn't want anybody to see him with a brace on. It didnt'have too much to do with the farm - I admit it- but it was nice.

This must be my favourite part of the whole book. Don't know why, but whenever I think of Catcher in the Rye, this part always comes to mind. It reminds me of those moments when you're talking to someone and all of a sudden you realise that you have no idea what the hell it is that you are talking about or how you came to think of the subject you're discussing, because it is completely different from the subject you started the conversation with. I think that those conversations actually are the best conversations there are.
