The Birth of Venus by Sandro Botticelli
When I was in Paris last January I also visited the Louvre. There I finally got to see some of Sandro Botticelli's work. His paintings are beautiful, especially the birth of Venus. I didn't get to see that one, simply because it's not displayed in the Louvre, but I've been seriously crazy about the painting ever since I first saw a wonderful wallpainting of it at a friends house. It wasn't as good as the original, but still, I adored it. And it's not just the painting I love, it's the story that goes with the painting as well. I might be a little biased since ancient Greek has always been my favourite class in school, but seriously, stories from Greek mythology are fantastic. I can read them over and over again and never get bored.

And the nominees are...

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I've been nominated by http://mila-loveology.blogspot.com for the thinking blogger award! Thanks for that, it's quite an honour :) Now it's time to fulfill my duties by answering the next three questions and nominating 5 others.

1. What is the story behind the name of your blog and nickname?
"Soir de fête" is the name of a song, composed by the wonderful Yann Tiersen, that's featured in my favourite movie, le fabuleux destin d'Amelie Poulain. It's a great song, and I also like the idea of this blog being a little party itself. In a way that it's fun and amusing! On top of that, it's French, no further explanation required.
My nickname, onomatopoeia, is the term used to describe words that imitate the sound they're describing, like click and meow. The first time I heard about this term was in second grade, during my first ancient greek class. It's derived from the greek words όνομα and ποιέω and loosely translates as name making. Not only did I love the idea of having words that are created this way but I also liked the word itself. Pretty geeky right? :p

2. What has been your best and worst blogging experience?
The best experience is the fact that I have received so many great comments since I started this blog! I immensely appreciate them and they make blogging much more fun. Which brings me to the contact with fellow bloggers, that too is something I really enjoy. I also love the fact that this blog enables me to have my own inspirational platform, where I can share whatever it is that I want to share with the rest of the world. Whether that would be pretty photographs, or great music.
The worst experience isn't such an easy call. Maybe it's not as much an experience as it is a feeling. Every now and then I tend to write about things that are a bit more personal, like what I did on that certain day, or how I feel about a certain subject. But the thing is, I have a bit of a problem deciding how many posts I want to spend on doing so. Usually I'm a bit of a private person and sometimes I fear that the anonimity that comes with the internet will tempt me into revealing more about certain matters than I'd actually feel comfortable about in the real world. So I'm still looking to find the right balance.

3. What do you think/ want to happen to your blog in 2008?
I seriously haven't got the slightest idea. I will continue blogging as long as I feel like doing so, and if I happen to get enough of the whole thing, then so be it ;) But for the time being I hope to just keep enjoying myself and others by writing this blog!

Time for nominations!

Je te vois

Spring has finally started, and in a few hours, weekend will begin as well. Unfortunately I haven't really got a lot of things planned for Easter yet. The only plans I've got so far are eating a lot of chocolate eggs, mucho chinese food, watching some movies, writing a few essays and visiting a huge fleamarket on sunday where I'll hopefully find some new furniture.

But first things first. Tonight Titanic will be on tv, and eventhough I must have seen it at least a hundred times, I'm not even exaggerating, I intend to watch it again. I still remember seeing it for the first time, I must have been 10 at the time, not succeeding to shed a single tear. Nor did the friend I watched it with. We were so disappointed in our emotional incapabilities that we had to go see it again in order to give ourselves another chance to prove the world that we were in fact capable of showing some human emotions. Can't remember if that was a succes, but I do know I actually went to see it a third time. It's so much more acceptable to be foolish at that age. Anyway, nowadays I am very much able to cry during the movie, though it's definitely no second pearl harbour (crying 11 times during one movie is either a sign of some serious emotional problems or a severe case of pms, let's just hope and pray it was because of the latter one).

Back to the weekend. I was thinking of baking a pie. As my mother is coming home again. Eventhough baking might not be the right word, since I was thinking of strawberry cheesecake, which is made in the refridgerator. And maybe I could make some pudding. Or does that make me sound too much like the new Martha Stewart?
Strangely enough the weather has been crazy over the last 24 hours and according to the weather forecast it's not likely to change anytime soon. It's constantly raining or snowing. It's freezing cold and the wind is breaking trees in two. This morning I even heard some thunder. So much for springtime. The worst thing about this horrible weather is the fact that I have a dog which actually enjoys being outside under these circumstances. Especially at 2.30 am.

As you might know, I love all things french, and it's getting worse and worse, including this tshirt from Sass & Bide. Not that S&B is a french brand, at least I think it isn't, but you probably understand what I mean. I was thinking of recreating it myself. It shouldn't be too hard. All I need are my drawing skills, some transferpaper and a shirt. Talking about France, I really want to go there this summer, but the thing is, I haven't yet found someone who's willing to go there with me. Maybe I should bribe some friends. I'm sure that would work.

Nostalgia

There aren't a lot of songs that never lose their appeal, but Obstinate by Albert Hammond jr. certainly is one of them. It's the unpolished version of In Transit, a song that can be found on his album 'Yours to Keep'. Obstinate is part of a road movie made by the Strokes which is also called In Transit. If you like the Strokes you should watch it some time, it's on youtube and quite hilarious (hello ze Strokes!). Around the time I first discovered the movie I also went to see the Strokes perform in Amsterdam and this song will always remind me of that concert and the magnificent summer that followed. Ah those were the days <3

Sail Away!

Photobucket

Tonight insomnia had gotten a hold of me and since I had nothing better to do -obviously- I decided that I could just as well get some sewing done. I had bought a bunch of golden navy-esque buttons yesterday, in order to sew them onto my blue wide legged trousers. I was inspired by both a pair of trousers from Topshop and the pants I saw at the cherryblossom girl's blog (pictured above), and I figured I could do the same thing for less money. I will admit, it wasn't easy. Sewing is not my greatest talent and it took me about 10 minutes to sew on a single button. Luckily the result looks fantastic, or at least, I think it does!
